The adventure trek on Renjo La and Gokyo Trek explores amazing Gokyo valley and crosses Renjo La pass at 5380 ms. This adventurous trek takes to the Everest region of the Himalaya where you will trek over the pass to the Gokyo valley.
Although the adventure goes to the Everest region, it does not take you to the Everest Base Camp. It only goes to explore the region where Renjo La stands and also to Gokyo valley to explore the beauty of the glacial lakes. You will also enjoy astonishing views of the mountains from Gokyo Ri. This viewpoint is another attraction on the trip for it brings wonderful view of the Gokyo valley and the mountain ranges in the Everest.

We are at the elevation of 1,400 meters from sea level and are going well above 5,000 meters on the trip. We will take this day as our acclimatization and preparation day before we head up towards the mountains. Instead of staying idle in hotel, we will take you for a wonderful day tour of Kathmandu valley. Exploring UNESCO’s cultural heritage sites in Kathmandu is the best way to know about historical, cultural and spiritual aspects of this 2 millennia old city. We will visit Swoyambhunath popularly known as the Monkey Temple that is oldest monument in Kathmandu valley, Kathmandu Durbar Square that is one of the medieval palace squares in Kathmandu valley, Boudhanath that is the largest Buddhist stupa and Pashupatinath that is a Hindu temple premises with open Hindu cremation platforms on the bank of River Bagmati. Once we are back to hotel in the afternoon, we will go for last minute gearing up for our trekking adventure.
It is going to be our first day in the mountains today. We drive to airport early in the morning for our flight to Tenzing Hilary airstrip in Lukla. This short and spectacularly adventurous flight takes us to breathe the rejuvenating air of the Everest region. Once we land at Lukla airport, we prepare to embark on the Everest Base Camp trekking journey. Although it’s a big adventure in the mountains, we will go at ease and pace as we advance towards our next destination. Our walk to Phakding is of about 4 hours that takes us through beautiful surroundings of mountains, nature and cultural riches.
This is the day we enter the Sagarmatha National Park. We continue the trekking through Dudh Koshi valley and cross and re-cross the river over suspension bridges. The trek goes past beautiful settlements of Monjo and Jorsalle and heads up towards the destination. We will come across donkeys and yaks fetching goods up to the higher elevation. The final section of the walk today is a steady uphill to the peacefully perched Namche Bazar on the mountain slope. Namche Bazar is one of the beautiful hometowns to Sherpa people and is often considered as the Sherpa capital. This small and beautiful town is the most happening place of all in the Everest region with ATM, internet, pub, market, trekking gear shops, souvenir shops etc.
Acclimatization is highly recommended and important part of trekking in the high elevation. Namche Bazar is our first acclimatization point in the mountains. Its strategic location at the elevation of 3,440 meters above sea level is the good place to stay an extra day and adjust with the elevation before going higher. As part of our acclimatization, we take a hiking adventure to Khumjung village to explore the surroundings. Khumjung is another beautiful Sherpa village where we can explore local lifestyle amazements and monastic spirituality in addition to captivating views of the mountains. After enjoying a wonderful hike and exploration of Khumjung village, we return back to Namche Bazar for overnight stay.
It is the day that we take a different route to the Everest Base Camp. We are heading towards the first of our 3 high passes we are going to trek over on the trip. We will trek through peaceful mountain landscape towards Thame as our destination today. About four hours of trekking through the beautiful trail takes us to the Sherpa village of Thame. Thame is the birth place to several famous Sherpa mountaineers including Tenzing Norgay Sherpa – the first man to summit the Mt. Everest. We can enjoy the beauty of the village of Sherpa mountaineers and the surroundings once we reach there.
We will trek to Marlung today to make the place our base to trek over Renjo La pass tomorrow. Another about four hours of trekking day takes us to Marlung for our overnight stay. The trail will bring us some unbelievably peaceful atmosphere to enjoy. We will meet fewer people and more peace along the trail in between Thame and Marlung. The view of the surrounding mountains and landscape makes the day wonderful.
One of the big days has finally come. We will trek over Renjo La pass - the first of three high passes on the trip. We embark on an early morning trekking adventure towards the pass to be at 5,360 meters above sea level when we reach there. After a strenuous effort to trek up the mountain, we eventually reach Renjo La pass to witness the overwhelming mountain surroundings. We will spend a few minutes of wonderful moment at the pass watching the surrounding mountains. Later, we continue our trekking towards Gokyo Lake. The downhill trek takes us to the shore of beautiful Gokyo Lake to spend our overnight.
We will have an early morning start of the day to hike to Gokyo Ri, a spectacular view point that provides an overwhelming view of the Himalayan folds. The strenuous trekking effort will get the reward of the overwhelming view of the lakes, mountains and glaciers. We hike down to Gokyo later after spending a good time at Gokyo Ri. We take our day here at Gokyo Lakes to explore and soak into the magical charm of the lake. Spending time at this peaceful place is simply a heavenly experience.
After a full day exploration of Gokyo Lakes and the valley, we are going to return back. On our trek today, we will reach Phortse village to stay overnight. We traverse the trail back and to the destination. Phortse is a beautiful Sherpa village that lies on beautiful terraced field on the slope right below a rocky mountain. This village offers beautiful view of mountains that we can enjoy once reach there.
After enjoying a wonderful stay at the Sherpa village of Phortse, we are returning back to Namche Bazar today. We again meander through the trail that descends and ascends through the landscapes. We will have chance to enjoy another stay at Namche. Once we reach Namche, we can take a relaxing wandering around the village.
We continue of the final day of trekking and head towards Lukla. Meandering mostly on the downhill trail, we follow the Dudh Koshi valley again to reach Lukla. We check out the amazing Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo and continue towards the destination. Once we reach Lukla and check into the guest house, we will have time to wander around and take a relaxing moment. A big walking adventure in the mountains has come to end today. Big thanks to the awesome team of porters and guide who tirelessly worked so hard to make sure that things are well taken care of.
We say goodbye to mountains today as we fly back to Kathmandu. A wonderfully peaceful adventure has come to end yet it has left a life lasting impression upon us.
