Highlights of the Trip
On your arrival at Paro airport, our company representative will warmly receive and welcome you to experience amazing Bhutan. You will then be driven to your hotel and checked in. A sightseeing tour of Paro is due for this afternoon. This cultural insightful tour of Paro this afternoon is the first hand experience of Bhutanese life, culture and people. We will visit Bhutanese farms, ancient temples and monasteries and also take strolls around the streets in Paro. We can experience the spiritual richness, simplicity in life style and magnificence in cultures during the day tour of Paro today.
We set off on a drive to Punakha on Thimpu Punakha highway. About 3 and half hour of drive takes us to further about 135 kilometers northeast to Punakha. The highway goes over Dochula pass that stands at 3,140 meters above sea level with stunning views of the mountain panorama. We also stop along the way to visit Druk Wangyal Lhakhang and enjoy the beauty of mural paintings there that record the important events in the history. Later in the afternoon, the Punakha tour brings us across Chhimi Lhakhang, Punakha Dzong, Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Lhakhang and many other interesting places in and around Punakha. After an incredible exploration of Punakha, we go to hotel and relax.
Our beautiful day begins with the preparation to drive to Bumthang. A good gain of elevation, of about 1,500 meters takes us to Bumthang that lies about seven hours far from Punakha. The long day drive is worth taking as it brings us some awesome views. We drive over another pass, Pele La, which stands at 3,350 meters above sea level. Spectacular views that come across the highway make our long drive easy and less tiring. As we spend most of the time today on the highway, we don’t have any activity scheduled in Bumthang today. We enjoy our leisurely time once we reach there.
As we have not done any activity in Bumthang, all the awesome sightseeing activities are scheduled for today. We go to explore Jambay Lhakhang, Jakar Dzong, Kuhey Lhakhang and a weaving center. Jakar Dzong is the administrative place for Bumthang valley. The tour takes us as far back as to the 7th century when we visit Liayke Jambay Lhakhang. Some great weaving skills of craftswomen at Dorjibi weaving center will show us how dedicatedly those artisans are involved in creating awesome woven craftworks. Later in the afternoon, once the sightseeing tour is finished, we drive to Trongsa for overnight stay.
We are driving to Thimpu, the capital city of Bhutan, today. But before we set off on the road journey, we have many fascinating things in Trongsa to see. We visit Trongsa Dzong and National Museum to get some cultural and historical insgihts. Trongsa Dzong is an incredible Dzong that is considered as one of the most beautiful ones in Bhutan. Once the sightseeing tour is finished, we driver to Thimpu. The road journey is going to long of about seven hours.
We go for a full day sightseeing tour of the famous places here in Thimpu. We visit Takin preserve to witness Takin, a rare animal that is endemic to Bhutan. Later, we also explore Tashichoe Dzong, Buddha point, National memorial chhorten, and craft bazar for a diverse experience of Bhutanese life, culture and spirituality. We also visit postal museum, folk heritage museum, painting school, textile museum etc. We will also explore a 17th century monastery called Tango monastery and get some insight about monastic life. A wonderful day is well spent to collect some incredible memories to cherish.
It’s a day full of adventure today. We drive back to Paro and get ready for an adventure hike to the famous Tiger’s Nest. The Tiger’s Nest, also known as Paro Taktsang Monastery, lies at 3,048 meters above sea level and gives good challenge of more or less 2.5 hours of walk up the hill to reach there. Paro Taktsang Monastery that hangs on a cliff on the top gives a wonderful view of the Paro valley straight down. We soak in each of the wonderful moments up in the Tiger’s Nest and start on the descent back to the base and drive to Paro.
As the last day on this trip, we drive you to airport for your flight back to home or onward destination. We definitely hope that you enjoyed your stay and time in Bhutan and hope to see you for another adventure soon.
