The Everest Base Camp Short Trek is a journey that harmoniously incorporates all of the best features and attributes of the Everest region to present you a short trekking experience perfect for travelers who are less on time. The jovial trekking trail passing through the ethnic villages of the region, and coruscating around landscapes that are extremely beautiful and refreshing, offer a trekking journey that truly captures the essence of the Nepalese mountain life. The Khumbu earns it’s well deserved fame as one of the most amazing trekking destinations in the entire world because of the region’s many appeals pertaining to both its cultural aspect and natural setting. The mountain views seen along the way, the rich natural terrain and its prospect of Sherpa tradition is what makes the Everest Base Camp Short Trek journey a daring feat of adventures in the alpine acreages of Khumbu. The many dispositions of the region play out a harmonious tune to present trekkers from all over the world an experience unlike anything else. Start off the trek from Kathmandu with a scenic flight to Lukla as you hold on to your seats while the plane flies around rolling green hills and mountains to land on one of the most dramatic airstrips on the planet. Trek on beautiful paths to villages like Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Tengboche and Dingboche as you make your may to the Everest Base Camp. Hike to the famous vantage point of Kalapatthar and revel in the panoramic sight of the entire Mount Everest massif. Enjoy a jovial trekking journey that completely captures the Everest region’s mountainous diversity.
As the paths wind about many hills and valleys, you would be crossing rickety wooden and suspension bridges and crossing Imja Khola and the Dudh Koshi Rivers to come across wide open expanses of boulder-dotted pastures and river basins. Herds of yaks, sheep and mountain goats carry along their trudging from one location to the next and the Sherpa people carry out their day-to-day life in the mountains, which are both very humbling to observe. Pass by many chortens and Gompas along the way and reach the famous Tengboche Monastery for blessings from the monks. Catch glimpses of animals and birds in the woodlands and rejoice in both open panoramic views and small peeks of mountains like Everest, Thamserku, the Kongdi RI, Ama Dablam, Tawache, Nuptse, the Kusum Kangraru, the Pumori and Makalu among many others. Spend time at Namche exploring the mountain town and visit the Everest View Hotel, the highest located hotel in the world. Namche is known as the “gateway to Everest” and its location on the side of the mountain face presents a terrace-like terrain filled with colorful houses and mountains in the distance like tapestries. Standing at the lower terraces of Namche and looking upwards at the rest of the village is like standing at the centre of an amphitheatre show and looking around the arena with houses and people scattered about. Hike to the summer valley of Dingboche and follow its mile-long stone wall to reach the Himalayas. Look at many Mani-stone wall carvings and colorful prayer flags that decorate the region at regular intervals. The Everest Base Camp Short Trek is an amazing combination of Khumbu’s many natural beguiles and its people’s traditional way of living. Immerse yourself in the region’s mountain sights and trek up hills brimming with rhododendrons and azaleas. It is a trek of a lifetime!
You can also opt for Everest Base Camp Heli Trek which is a journey that involves returning back to Kathmandu via a helicopter or you can also choose our Everest Gokyo Lake Trek for a journey to the sapphire Gokyo lakes of the Himalayas. Arrive in Kathmandu at any time. Our airport representative will welcome you and explain the program further. There are no planned activities for the day, so check into the hotel. Enjoy your overnight stay at the hotel.
Early morning transfer to the airport for Lukla flight. The flight to Lukla is a lifetime experience in itself. The airfield is at high evaluation and the difference between the two ends of the runway is about an exceptional 60 meters only. Trek to Phakding with an arresting, green landscape with the view of Kusum Kangraru. Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
We follow the Dudh Koshi, ascending through Himalayan pine and cedar forests, to the celebrated village of Namche Bazaar. The village of Namche is a historic trading post where Nepalese and Tibetan traders exchange salt, dried meat and textiles. Besides being a splendid destination to shop for traditional crafts, Namche remains the central trading post in the Khumbu that attracts Himalayan and lowland merchants. You will spend two days at Namche for acclimatization, visit local markets and spend time with your team. On the hike we capture our first glimpses of Everest and neighboring peaks. Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
This day is especially sectioned for acclimatization. We will hike to Syangboche Airport (3700m), supposed to be the highest airport in the world, then continue climbing to Everest View Hotel for great panoramic views of the Everest, Lhotse, Amadablam, Tawache etc. On the way back, we visit Sherpa Culture Museum and Everest Photo Gallery. Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
The uniform and easy trail leads us towards the view of Mount Everest, descending deep into the Dudh Koshi Valley at Pungki Thanka and from this point, it ascends the right flank of the Dudh Koshi valley to Tengboche Monastery (3860m). It is the spiritual center of the Khumbu. The climb is lengthy, but is more than adequately compensated by gorgeous views of Mount Amadablam and on a clear day, views of Mt. Everest and its surrounding peaks. Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Descend through a beautiful forest, cross the Imja Khola and trek through the village of Pangboche (3900m); perhaps today is the most interesting trekking because you will not lose altitude like on other days and you will enjoy views of Mt. Amadablam, Mt. Lhotse & other peaks; the route continues through pastures to Dingboche, known as the ‘summer valley’. Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
This would be your second acclimatization day that requires about 6 hours of trekking to an altitude of 5100m. After breakfast, you ascend Nagerjun (5100m), a hill located on the flanks of the Chhukung valley directly above Dingboche. The main aim is to climb high and sleep low. The foot path becomes steep at times, resulting in a physically strenuous day. Ascending the hill could take up to 5 hours at altitude. From this altitude there are good views of Lobuche East (6119m), Lobuche West (6145m), Taboche Peak (6367m), Thamserku (6608m), Kangtega (6685m) and Ama Dablam (6856m). On a clear day, you could even see Makalu, the world’s fifth highest mountain, including great views of the Pheriche Valley. After a short rest, you start the descent back to Dingboche and the walk at altitude takes about 2 hours. After lunch, take a well-deserved rest, as afternoon temperatures could drop rapidly as the sun sets over the mountain tops. You will also spend a second night in Dingboche. Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Trek along a broad valley floor to Dughla, passing the Trekkers Aid Post at Pheriche (4240 m). This trek is staffed by western volunteer doctors and supported by the Himalayan Rescue Association, which offers treatment and consultation to trekkers. Continue up the valley, gaining altitude. We come out of the valley to descend to the yak pastures of Lobuche. Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
After a short climb through meadows, look down at the Khumbu glacier. Straight ahead is Kalapattar – the best vantage point to view the entire south face of Mt. Everest and the surrounding peaks. After a couple of hours we will get to Gorekshep, and continue our journey to the Everest base camp. There is not much elevation gain, but there are a lot of ups and downs and, combined with altitude, this can be an exhausting trek – but the journey is worth it. After approximately 3 hrs of hiking, you will arrive at the base camp and enjoy a magnificent view of the Khumbu glacier and icefall, where the Everest expeditions begin. Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
The day starts with a hike up to Kalapattar (5545m), the best viewpoint to witness Mount Everest, in all its glory and the spectacular Himalayan range. We then trek back to Gorekshep, for breakfast and then descend to Pheriche. Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
