The EBC with Chola Pass & Gokyo Lake trek is one of the most thrilling adventures that you will embark on in the Everest Region. This trek follows the route via Mt. Everest Base Camp (5364m) and a high mountain pass called Chola Pass at 5420 meters, leading to Gokyo Lake. To begin the trek, you will take an incredible flight to Lukla. From there, you will slowly trek uphill and follow the trail to the Dudh Koshi River, passing through forests of rhododendron, pine, and magnolia. Trekking for a while will finally bring you to Namche Bazaar (3,340 m). You will spend one more day in Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa capital, for acclimatization and an optional hike around. From Namche, you will explore other Sherpa villages such as Tengboche, Pangboche, Dingboche, Lobuche, and Gorek Shep before heading to Everest Base Camp.
After arriving at Gorakshep, you will trek to Everest Base Camp. The following morning, you will ascend to Kala Patthar (5,545m) for an impressive close-up view of stunning peaks like Mt. Everest, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Pumori, Mt. Lingtren, Mt Ama Dablam, Mt. Tawache, Mt. Cholatse, Mt. Kangtega, Mt. Thamserku and many others. When you return from Gorakshep, you will follow the route through Lobuche and reach Dzongla. After Dzongla, the next day, you will cross Chola Pass (5,420m), move towards Gokyo Lake, cross the Ngozumpa Glacier, probably the world's longest glacier, and the Thaknak/Dragnag valley. From Gokyo, you will climb Gokyo Ri (5369m) and enjoy stunning peaks of different mountains such as Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Makalu, Mt. Cho Oyo, Mt Ama Dablam, Mt. Cholatse, Mt. Kangtega, Mt. Thamserku and many others. After Gokyo, you will return via Machhermo, Dole to Namche Bazaar to Lukla. Throughout the trek, you will enjoy incredible mountain scenery until you reach Lukla airstrip. The next day, you will take a flight back to Kathmandu.
Upon arriving at Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu, our representative will welcome you and take you to your hotel in a comfortable vehicle. Our airport-hotel transfer service is more than just a simple ride. Once you arrive at the hotel, you will be offered a welcome drink in the lobby, and then you can proceed with the check-in process. Your accompanying guide will handle all the logistics during the trek, so you can focus solely on your adventure and relax!
After having breakfast, you will embark on a guided sightseeing tour of the Kathmandu Valley, which will include visiting several UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The tour will commence with a visit to Pashupatinath, which is considered to be the most sacred Hindu Temple dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva. Following that, you will proceed to Kathmandu Durbar Square, which is a historically and culturally significant site. The tour will then proceed to Boudhanath Stupa, which is one of the most sacred Buddhist sites in the world, and Bhaktapur Durbar Square, a former royal palace complex.
Your city guide will accompany you during the tour and provide information about each place, including its historical and religious significance. Moreover, the guide will address any queries you might have. The sightseeing tour will take approximately three to four hours, and lunch will be provided during the tour. Once the tour is completed, you will be dropped off at your hotel. Meanwhile, our team will be busy preparing for all necessary permits, which include trekking, climbing, and Sagarmatha National Park permits,
Today, it is important for you to wake up early and have breakfast. At around 09:00 or 10:00 a.m., you will be leaving Kathmandu for Manthali Airport in the Ramechap district. This journey will take approximately 3.5 hours by private transport. Once you reach Manthali airport, you will catch a flight to Lukla. This is because Kathmandu Airport has increasingly become congested and Lukla is the busiest domestic flight sector in Nepal. By taking this route, we can avoid the traffic congestion at Kathmandu Airport and provide you with easy flight access to Lukla. The flight to Lukla takes only 15 minutes and offers picturesque views of the mountains and scenery. Upon arrival at Lukla airport, we will take a short hike along the trail through the Dudhkoshi River’s bank to Phakding (2,610m). Later in the afternoon, we will visit nearby attractions of Phakding before settling in for the night at a lodge.
After breakfast, we will begin our trek, which will mostly be an uphill walk through the alpine valleys. The Dudh Kosi River will be crossed several times before we reach Namche Bazaar, the capital of the Sherpa people in the Khumbu area. This vibrant alpine town is the entry point to the Khumbu area and the Everest Base Camp. Situated at an elevation of 3,440 meters, trekkers and mountaineers looking for adventure in the most breathtaking mountain range on earth will also find refuge here. On a clear day, while trekking you can enjoy stunning views of Everest, Lhotse, Thamserku, Kusum Kangru, Kwangde, and Taweche
Discover the vibrant Sherpa culture in this little town with its meandering stone-paved pathways and colorful houses. It's also a great starting point for exploring the many hiking trails that weave through the area. The town is a must-visit for anybody traveling through the Himalayas because of its distinctive setting, energetic attitude, and rich cultural legacy.
It is important to acclimatize before heading to higher altitudes. Namche Bazaar is a great place to do this, and it's recommended that everyone includes an acclimatization day here in their trekking itinerary. While in Namche, you can explore the area and take it easy. The town is nestled between two ridges and surrounded by towering peaks of the Khumbu region. It also boasts numerous lodges, tea shops, souvenir shops, and stunning views. This makes it an ideal place to rest and acclimatize to the high altitude before moving on to places like Thame and other higher altitudes in Khumbu. As part of the acclimatization process, we will visit the Everest View Hotel, the only luxury hotel located at an altitude of 3,800 meters and offers amazing views of Everest and other beautiful mountains. After spending a few hours at the hotel, we'll return to Namche Bazaar for an overnight stay.
Today, we'll embark on an exciting trekking journey to witness the grandeur of the Himalayan Mountain range, including the world's highest peak - Mount Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku - as we make our way towards Tengboche Village. Although the trail is not easy due to its ups and downs, we'll have the opportunity to spot some amazing wildlife such as Himalayan Thar, Musk Deer, Pheasant, and other fauna. After a while, we'll descend and pass through dense pine forests, eventually reaching our lunch spot, Phunki Thanga. After lunch, we'll continue our trek and climb up to Tengboche Village. Upon arriving at the lodge, we'll store our luggage and visit the Tengboche Monastery, one of the biggest monasteries in the Khumbu region. Overnight stay at lodge
Today, we're going to trek to reach the village of Dingboche. We will hike up out of the valley, leaving the Imja Khola river behind. Dingboche is a small settlement devoid of trees, but the mountains surrounding it are stunning, and Ama Dablam can be seen from your porch. The area has an alpine climate, and the weather is always cold. The average temperature in Dingboche is just 1° C; even during the height of summer, temperatures don't exceed 10° C. Expect to feel the effects of altitude every time you exert yourself. Some people find that the altitude starts to affect the quality of their sleep too. Overnight stay at the lodge
After having breakfast, we will continue our journey up a wide valley for five to six hours until we reach Lobuche. The incline is pretty gradual, and the terrain in this area is pretty barren. As we climb higher into the Himalayas, the settlements become smaller and more modest, and Lobuche is no exception. At this point, we no longer look for cultural and religious gems. After lunch, the terrain becomes more challenging as we encounter a large hill. However, we can make it feel less difficult by going slowly and zigzagging our way up. At the top of the hill are memorials for people who have passed away on expeditions to Everest. Lobuche is particularly busy in spring when porters pass through while transporting supplies to Everest Base Camp in preparation for the summiting season in May.
We will begin our trek toward Gorakshep after having breakfast. It will be 3 hours trek but not difficult. However, it will be very crowded in the spring and autumn season. Gorakshep is located at an altitude of 5,170 meters near Mount Everest and remains uninhabited for most of the year. We will walk through rocky dunes, moraines, and streams before finally reaching Mt. Everest Base Camp from Gorakshep. It is important to note that the thin air at such a high altitude can be exhausting. However, once you reach the Everest Base Camp, you'll witness some of the world's highest peaks, which stand in stark contrast to the grey surroundings, especially during the spring season.
It's important to note that two trekking groups are not allowed to stay in the base camp for very long. However, during your visit, you will have the opportunity to feel the buzz and excitement of potential summiteers of Everest (if you visit during the climbing season - April/May). After spending some time at the base camp, we will descend back to Gorak Shep for the overnight stay, passing great views of the Khumbu icefall. It will take approximately 3 to 4 hours to walk back to Gorakshep.
Today, we will start our 1.2km journey towards Kala Pattar, also referred to as the Black Rock, where we will witness a mesmerizing sunrise and get an up-close view of Mount Everest. It usually takes around 1.5 to 2.5 hours to reach Kalapatthar. The steep terrain and high altitude may be challenging, but the stunning views of sunrise that await us at the top make it all worth it. Once we reach Kalapatthar, we'll feel like we're on top of the world, and we'll be rewarded with spectacular panoramic views of Everest, Nuptse, and Lhotse. After enjoying the views from Kalapatthar, we will make our descent down to Gorak Shep. From Gorak Shep, we will trek to Dzongla (4620 m) and stay overnight at the lodge.
After breakfast, we will continue our trek along the arid valley and slowly begin to climb the steep uphill to Cho La Pass. A suitable level of physical fitness and stamina are necessary for the ascent. Even experienced hikers who have completed hikes in the high-altitude region previously find the paths a bit difficult. While climbing uphill, we will walk through the iced rocks along the Cho La glacier. From the top of the Cho La pass, you will see incredible Himalayan vistas. Enjoy the moment before you start descending down to the remote village of Phedi. In this village, you will get some rest. From Phedi village, we will further trek to Thangna, which is a tiny village with few lodges.
From the many sceneries along the route, you will enjoy expansive views of the entire area. Along the route, there are captivating glaciers, rivers, waterfalls, etc. Finally, after traveling for five to six hours, you will reach Thangna. The village also offers the rare glimpses of Machhermo Peak. Overnight stay at the lodge
Today we will be trekking to Gokyo from Thangna. You should wake up early in the morning, have breakfast, and start your journey. The initial trek will take you through glacial terrains made of ice and boulders. The first and second lakes will be passed as you proceed down the route that originates at the west end of Ngozumpa Glacier. The little village of Gokyo is located on the eastern coast of Lake Dudh Pokhari. It is 4,750 meters above sea level, directly beneath the Gokyo Ri. To make trekking easier, the town has been commercialized with hotels and lodges.
If the weather permits in the morning, we will begin our climb to Gokyo Ri and then continue our trek toward Machhermo. Once we pass the southern end of Lake Taboche Tsho, we will come across a cairn that marks a fork in the trail. To continue our journey, we will branch left, make an easy rise across the slope, and reach the top of the moraine wall at a saddle. From this point, we will have an excellent view of the Ngozumpa Glacier towards Cho Oyu in the north, as well as Cholatse and Taboche in the southeast.
After enjoying the stunning views, we will descend to the glacier, where we will weave around ice cliffs, rocky humps, skirt small lakes, and cross flats of glacial sand. The views from here are breathtaking in every direction. Finally, the trail will lead us to our destination for the day - Machhermo.
Today's trek is relatively short and takes us through a beautiful section of the Everest Base Camp route. Along the way, we will pass through several charming mountainside villages, such as Dole, and be treated to sweeping vistas of the snow-capped mountains. As we make our way from Machhermo to Namche Bazaar, you will also have the opportunity to observe the diverse natural surroundings of the area, including the stony steps of the terrain. There will be a few villages along the route where we can stop for a rest and lunch. After lunch, we will continue our downhill walk and enjoy the scenic views with more vegetation and warmer temperatures. This part of the trek will also afford us the chance to learn about the heritage, traditions, and lifestyles of the various local communities. We will arrive at Namche Bazaar after trekking for some time and spend the night at the lodge.
Today is the final day of our trek. After we have breakfast, we will descend the trail slowly and carefully, due to the steep path and our tired legs from the long trekking we did earlier. The beauty of nature will be on full display, with colorful rhododendrons and pine forests, open plains, and breathtaking views of the snow-capped mountains that appear to loom over the trekking route. The Sherpa villages, with their Buddhist culture reflected in prayer flags, prayer stones, and gompas, along with the lush vegetation, make this trekking experience an amazing one. In this Sherpa town, we will take some time to relax and reflect on the experiences we gained during the challenging yet rewarding trekking journey. Once we arrive in Lukla, we will spend the night in a comfortable lodge, reflecting on the day & expedition.
After breakfast, you will leave Lukla to catch your early flight to Ramechap. Many flights will fly every hour because the flight from Lukla to Ramechap is shorter.
Today marks the end of your stay in Nepal. You will be picked up from the hotel and transferred to the Tribhuvan International Airport as per your flight departure time. As you board your flight, bid a fond farewell to our Himalayan Country, taking with you the memories of the snow-capped peaks, beautiful scenery, and the warm smiles of the people you have encountered along the way. Nepal will always hold a special place in your heart, and until we meet again, carry the beauty and charm of this land with you.
